Team Effort Sends Milwaukee To Fourth Straight Win

Panthers finish 21-22 from the line in road win

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Four players scored in double figures as the Milwaukee women's basketball team put together an impressive four-quarter performance for a 74-62 road win over Oakland at the O'rena Thursday.

The Panthers (14-5, 5-2 Horizon) shot a season-high 95.5 percent (21-22) from the free throw line, including 9-10 in the fourth quarter to ice the game away.

"This was a huge win for us," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "Oakland's pace is something you can't really prepare for, especially when we have such a short turnaround from one game to the next. We're in this stretch of five games in 10 days. So, we knew this was going to be a battle tonight coming in. We had to switch up our defense numerous times just so they couldn't get in the flow of things.

"I was really proud of our team's preparation coming in. I felt like they really knew what Oakland was going to do on the offensive end and how to maintain some of their players."

Steph Kostowicz had a dominant showing with 16 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

Bailey Farley continued her hot streak, joining Kostowicz with a game-high 16 points, going 8-8 from the charity stripe. She also stuffed the stat sheet with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Jamie Reit finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Jenny Lindner finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.

Lizzie Odegard came off the bench for nine points and four rebounds in 15 minutes and Brandi Bisping hauled in five huge rebounds – all in the fourth quarter.

Taylor Jones – who was honored before the game for scoring her 1,000th career point – led Oakland (10-8, 3-4 Horizon) with 14 points.

After a fairly even first quarter, Milwaukee turned it up a notch in the second. Oakland opened with an early three to take a 21-20 lead, but Reit answered right back for UWM on the next possession with a three of her own to start a big run. The Panthers got to the line early and often in the second and a jumper by Kelsey Cunningham capped a 16-4 run that spanned nearly five minutes to put Milwaukee up 36-25.

The Golden Grizzlies got hot early in the third and whittled Milwaukee's lead down to just 49-47 with 3:14 left in the frame.

The Panthers once again responded the way they have so many times already this season, calmly and with a counter punch of their own.

Odegard drilled a three from the top of the key before five straight points from Farley. Sydney Staver then found her way down low for a big bucket and just like that, Milwaukee was back up 59-49 with just under one minute left in the third.

Milwaukee then opened the fourth on an 8-2 run and went 9-10 from the charity stripe in the final frame to take home the victory going away.

It was another dominant showing on the boards Thursday by UWM, finishing with a 45-30 edge on the night.

Up next, the Panthers close out their busy stretch of five games in 10 days and their current three-game road swing Saturday with a Noon Central start at Detroit Mercy.
