Panthers Bounce Back In Sweep Of DePaul

Volleyball now 6-3 on the year

CHICAGO – After a frustrating loss one day earlier, the Milwaukee volleyball team bounced back in a big way with a 3-0 sweep of DePaul Saturday morning from McGrath-Phillips Arena.

In the second of three matches as part of the DePaul Invitational, UWM used an early first-set rally that propelled them the rest of the way for a 25-21, 25-20- 25-18 win.

"What a great team effort. Absolute great job executing the game plan," Milwaukee head coach Susie Johnson said. "DePaul pushed us, and we pushed back. Kylie played a great all-around match and Jenn's command of the offense was very strong today.

"Our block was a big factor today, too. That doesn't show up in the stat sheet, but the block really led to a lot of digs for us today. I'm proud of the team for coming back today and putting up this kind of a performance."

Kylie Wilks had her first double-double of the young season with a match-high 13 kills to go with 11 digs.

Jenn Dore had an impressive 41 assists in the three-set match, guiding Milwaukee to a .330 hitting percentage.

Mykie Olsen played a key role Saturday, tallying a match-high 16 digs.

Offensively, Carmen Heilemann and Caitlin Schultz both reached double-digit kills in the win with 10 each.

Myah Reed led the way for DePaul (2-5) with eight kills.

In a close match late in the first, Milwaukee used a pair of 4-0 runs to springboard to a 23-19 lead before closing things out on a kill by Jess Kalous to take the opener.

The Panthers were all over the Blue Demons early in the second, going up 12-7 and 20-13 after a kill by Heilemann. DePaul tried to claw back, but Milwaukee was up to the task to take the commanding 2-0 lead.

UWM didn't let up in the third. Tied at 12-12, the Panthers methodically pulled away, going up 23-17 after another smash by Schultz. Milwaukee closed things out in style with an ace by Olsen – one of her four for the match.

In all, Milwaukee had nine aces in the match – the most in a three-setted this season.

The Panthers will turn right back around for their tournament finale, taking on Army at 5 pm.
