Panthers Get Weekend Split Behind Peters, Boidanis

Great pitching effort sends UWM to victory

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Milwaukee baseball team scored five times in the fourth and fifth innings to break open a 1-1 game and would add on from there, recording an 8-2 victory over Evansville Sunday afternoon at Braun Stadium.

The Panthers (6-5) also got a brilliant pitching performance from Jay Peters, who went eight strong innings against the Purple Aces (3-8) to record his second win of the season.

"Jay stepped up and gave us a great start," Milwaukee head coach Scott Doffek said. "He had a good mix going all game. Offensively, we were able to put together good at bats with guys on base. It was good to see a few of these guys gets the bats going."

John Boidanis led the offense with a big day. He went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, including a big two-run home run in the fifth inning that made it 6-1 at the time and essentially put the game away.

Chris Kelly also went 3-for-3, scoring three times and walking twice to be on base all five times. Devin Rybacki and Ben Chally both ended the day with two hits apiece.

Boidanis' second-inning double started the scoring, driving in Kelly to make it 1-0. Evansville tied the game in the third and Milwaukee responded immediately with three runs in the fourth.

Cole Heili drove in a run, Rybacki added an RBI-single and another run scored on a wild pitch to extend the advantage to 4-1. Boidanis' home run to left field sealed it at 6-1.

Two more runs came home in the ninth, one on a sac fly by Boidanis and another on a single by Dylan Detert.

Peters (2-0) was great. He threw the first eight innings, allowing the two runs, walking a pair and striking out five.

Up next, the first close-by competition follows, with a trip midweek to take on Minnesota set for Wednesday. Then, on the weekend, it's back to Texas for a three-game set against Texas at Arlington.
