Panthers Stymie Red Flash To Advance To WBI Semis

Reit scores a career-high 15 points in win

LORETTO, Penn. – The Milwaukee women's basketball team finished the game going 12-of-14 from the free throw line to help secure a 67-57 win over St. Francis in a WBI quarterfinal contest inside DeGol Arena.
 
Jamie Reit poured in a career-high 15 points to lead Milwaukee (22-11) past the Red Flash (17-15) for the second postseason win in program history. 
 
Milwaukee, which tied the program record with its 22nd win in the season, will now advance to the semifinals and will take on UNC Greensboro Thursday evening at 6 pm Central Time.
 
"Anytime you go on the road you hope your team comes out with the energy and enthusiasm and just shooting the basketball the way that we did," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "I'm really proud of how we played today. I thought that some people really came in off the bench to help us and this is just an opportunity to continue to show that growth in our program and how far we've come over the last few years."
 
Reit scored a career-high 15 points, including 11 coming in the second half and a big three-pointer with just 39 seconds left to all but clinch the win for Milwaukee.
 
Steph Kostowicz recorded her second-straight double-double in the postseason with 15 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes.
 
Jenny Lindner also scored in double figures with eight rebounds, while Sierra Ford-Washington added seven points, nine rebounds two assists and two steals. Bailey Farley tied her season best with seven rebounds.
 
St. Francis was led by its First-Team All-Northern Conference selections as Jessica Kovatch scoring a game-high 17 points and Ace Harrison adding another 15 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Tied at 38 late in the third quarter, Milwaukee used a 7-0 run that stretched into the fourth to make it 45-38 Panthers for a lead they would never relinquish.
 
SFU cut the lead to three twice early in the fourth before Farley drilled a three-pointer to make it 50-44 with 6:17 to play.
 
From there, Milwaukee went 12-of-14 from the free throw line to ice the game away.
 
Early on, Milwaukee jumped out of the gates in the opening quarter and played lights-out defense in the early going for a 15-4 lead after one.
 
In the second quarter, however, the Red Flash were able claw their way back in the game with a 19-4 run to take a 23-19 lead with 2:50 left in the first half.
 
Milwaukee out rebounded SFU, 50-32 – the team's eighth time this season outrebounding its opponent by 16 or more.
 
The Panthers also held the Red Flash to just 31.3 percent shooting from the floor and just five made threes – both the second worst totals for all season for SFU.
 
UWM now advances to the WBI semifinals, heading to Greensboro, N.C. to to take on the UNGC Spartans. Tip time is scheduled for 6 pm Central from Fleming Gym.
