Panthers Fall In Hurricane Relief Exhibition Game

Milwaukee and Marquette help raise over $31,000

MILWAUKEE – Marquette edged the Milwaukee men's basketball team, 78-63 Sunday afternoon from the Al McGuire Center in the first exhibition action of the year. The game – attended by over 2,100 fans – raised over $31,000 in support of hurricane relief efforts.

"This was great for us, to come out here and get an opportunity to play against a quality opponent like Marquette," Milwaukee head coach Pat Baldwin said. "To be in the situation where the lights are on and the fans are out and a little bit louder; this was great for us."

The Panthers shot nearly 50 percent (22-46) from the floor for the game, but the Golden Eagles – who led the NCAA in three-point shooting a year ago – drained 11 from downtown Sunday in what proved to be the difference.

Brett Prahl finished with a team high 15 points for Milwaukee on 5-of-6 shooting, to go with six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

August Haas and newcomer Vance Johnson each added nine points apiece.

Brock Stull stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds and nine assists for the near triple-double.

Jeremy Johnson also chipped in with eight points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench.

Marquette was led by Sam Hauser, who finished with 27 points on 9-for-15 shooting, including five made three pointers.

UWM held the Golden Eagles scoreless for nearly the first four minutes of the game and kept the score close until a late MU push in the closing minutes.

The Panthers will host Wisconsin Lutheran Thursday, Nov. 2 from the Klotsche Center for their final exhibition game.
