CHICAGO, Ill. - Dylan Detert paced a 12-hit attack as the Milwaukee baseball team put away Chicago State University with four runs in the eighth inning on its way to a 12-9 victory Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Stadium.

The Panthers (13-14) led by a score of 8-3, only to see their lead shrink to just one run when the Cougars (7-25) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Milwaukee quickly regained momentum, stringing together four runs on four hits to take a 12-7 lead and hung on from there.

Jay Peters (3-3) picked up the victory, putting up two innings of scoreless relief in the middle of the contest when the Panthers broke a 3-3 tie with four more runs in the fourth inning. He struck out a pair and did not allow a hit.

Detert went 3-for-4, knocked in a run and scored twice to lead the offense.
John Boidanis was 2-for-4 and scored twice and
Cole Heili (2-for-4) also added a multi-hit effort.

Luke Meeteer drove in a team-high three runs, going 1-for-3 with a walk, sac fly and a stolen base.
Daulton Varsho knocked in two, walked twice, recorded a hit and scored a run.
Eric Solberg drove in two and scored three runs on the day.

Zach Thomas was 2-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Cougars. Seven different pitchers took the mound for CSU, with starter Jamary McKinney (0-1) suffering the loss after allowing five runs – four earned – despite giving up just one hit. He did walk six, striking out two.

The Panthers jumped on the board in the top of the first, scoring two runs on just one hit, with Heili doubling in a run after the first one scored on a wild pitch.

UWM quickly gave the lead right back, with an error-filled play scoring two Cougar runners and tying the contest 2-2 in the bottom of the frame.

Tied, 3-3, in the fourth, Detert and
Billy Quirke had RBI-singles, Meeteer had the sac fly and Solberg also drove in a run to give Milwaukee command at 7-3.

Clinging to a one run lead at 8-7, the Panthers put up a crooked number in the eighth to put it away. The team scored four runs on four hits, the big one being a two-run double off the bat of Meeteer.

Cal Haley pitched two scoreless innings,
Jake Tuttle 1.2 hitless frames and
Zach Brenner was called on in the ninth with the bases loaded, earning his first save of the season, while not allowing a hit.

The team makes a return to Chicago on the weekend, playing UIC in a three-game series opening Friday. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
