JONESBORO, Ark. - The Milwaukee baseball team overcame an early deficit to lead 3-2, but could not take advantage of the momentum in falling to Arkansas State Friday at Tomlinson Stadium by a final score of 13-3.

The Panthers (2-7) could not keep the Red Wolves (5-4) off the scoreboard after taking the lead in the third, giving it back in the bottom of the fourth inning with the home team tacking on from there, with a big seventh inning putting the game away.

Milwaukee fell behind by a pair if the first, but took that 3-2 lead on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
John Boidanis in the second and a two-out rally in the third.

With one on and two outs,
Daulton Varsho singled. His was the first of three consecutive two-out safeties, with UWM getting RBI's from both
Luke Meeteer and
Ian Ross to hold a 3-2 advantage.

The Red Wolves responded quickly, however, jumping back in the lead with two in the fourth and continued to add from there.

Meeteer led the way with a 3-for-4 day, adding the RBI. Varsho went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Joe Schrimpf paced A-State with a 3-for-4 day, scoring three times and knocking in a pair.

Jay Peters (1-1) was touched up for five earned runs in 5.0 innings, striking out four while walking three. Tyler Zuber (1-0) picked up victory with eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings on the mound.

The teams are right back at it tomorrow, with game one of a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
