K-State Takes Weekend Series With Victory In Finale

Reuss pitches well again; Varsho has two hits

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Levi MaVorhis struck out 12 batter in seven shutout innings to lead Kansas State University to a 7-0 victory over the Milwaukee baseball team Sunday afternoon at Tointon Stadium.

The Panthers (4-11) got another strong start from Adam Reuss, who allowed just one earned run in his 6.0 innings of work. The Wildcats (10-5) topped that with an impressive start from MaVorhis, who retired 21 of the 24 batters he faced, did not issue a walk and recorded the highest strikeout total for a K-State pitcher since May of 2011.

"We got another really good start by Adam today," Milwaukee head coach Scott Doffek said. "He gave us a chance to win the ballgame, for sure. We just couldn't get anything going against their pitcher today. He was really good all day. We had opportunities to make a couple of plays today and didn't and those turned out to be critical in the outcome."

A few of those came early, as UWM put two runners on in the top of the first but could not score. Errors played a role again for the second day in a row, as a pair of Milwaukee miscues helped the Wildcats to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

Meanwhile, MaVorhis made quick work of the Panthers after the first, recording 1-2-3 innings from the second through the sixth, retiring 16 in a row before Daulton Varsho singled to lead off the seventh.

Reuss (1-2) went the first 6.0 innings, allowing six hits and two runs, one earned. He walked one and struck out four.

The Wildcats then opened the game up with five runs in the bottom of the seventh to put it away.

The UWM offense posted four hits, two by Varsho. Luke Meeteer had a hit in the first inning and Cole Heili went 1-for-3.

Up next, the Panthers remain on the road, heading to the state of Illinois for a weekend series with Illinois State. First game will be Friday at 4:30 p.m.
