Panthers Again Fall Victim To Late Wright State Rally

Milwaukee drops third straight one-run game

DAYTON, Ohio - For the second day in a row Wright State University topped the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team in walkoff fashion, this time overcoming a one-run deficit in the bottom of the 13th inning to steal a 6-5 victory Sunday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.

The Panthers (10-7, 2-4 Horizon League) overcame an early 4-1 lead by the Raiders (15-6, 6-0 Horizon League), scoring a run in the ninth to force extra innings. Milwaukee then took the 5-4 advantage in the top of the 13th on a run-scoring triple off the bat of senior Tell Taylor.

But, Wright State took advantage of three walks in the bottom of the frame to cap the improbable comeback. It was Sam Morrow for the second straight day, sending a double to the left field gap with one out and the bases loaded to plate the tying and winning runs.

Taylor (2 hits, 2 RBI), senior Ryan McShane (2 hits, RBI) and junior Mitch Ghelfi (2-for-5, run scored) led the offense. Senior Sam Koenig hit a home run in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Mitch Roman went 4-for-6 to lead WSU.

Senior Sam Hammer drove in a run in the fifth to start UWM's comeback and Taylor's home run to lead off the seventh inning made it 4-3. McShane played hero in the ninth, with his two-out double knotting the score at 4-4.

Up next, the Panthers remain off from any midweek action before heading to the state of Michigan on the weekend to resume Horizon League play at Oakland March 27-29.
