Raiders Fly High On Senior Day To Take Down Panthers

Milwaukee just can’t get on track in Dayton

Dayton, Ohio – Katie Klusman had 15 kills to lead Wright State University to a 3-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team Saturday afternoon from the C.J. McLin Gymnasium.

The Raiders – hosting senior day as part of its final home match of the season – hit .233 for the match and grabbed an impressive 13 blocks, limiting the Panthers to just .099 on the attack in the 25-18, 29-27, 25-14 win.

"Wright State was very good today," Milwaukee head coach Susie Johnson said. "They had a game plan and they came out and executed it well. Their block was very strong today and we didn't come out with enough urgency and intensity to match them."

Four players reached double figures in digs as the Panther defense did what it could Saturday. Myanna Ruiz led the way with an impressive 20 digs in the three-set match. Kayla Price added 17, while Maddie Schmitz tallied 12 and Mykie Olsen 10.

Price added 31 assists for the match, moving her to 981 on the season.

Celine Jones and Sammi Herron each had eight kills to lead the way for the Panthers (7-19, 5-8 Horizon).

Wright State (13-15, 2-11 Horizon) started the match even with UWM. After a kill by Herron, Milwaukee claimed an 8-6 lead. WSU was able to go on a short run to claim the lead, which it would never relinquish to take set one.

The second was back-and-forth the whole way. The Raiders held a small lead the majority of the way before a kill by Maggie Dunbar tied things up at 19-19. The teams traded points from there, with neither able to go up by more than a point until well into extras. But, WSU was able to just do enough to find two in a row to take the 2-0 lead.

The Raiders jumped out early in the third and never looked back. Milwaukee kept things close early, drawing to 8-7 after a block by Jess Kalous and Price, and later 12-9 after a kill by Williams, but it wasn't enough as WSU slowly pulled away for the sweep.

Milwaukee returns home for a pair of matches next weekend, starting Friday by hosting UIC at 7 p.m.
