Golden Eagles Control Panthers In Win

Marquette hit .318 for the match

MILWAUKEE – Taylor Louis had 14 kills as Marquette claimed a 25-20, 25-13, 25-18 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team Monday night at the Al McGuire Center.

The Golden Eagles (17-7) hit .318 for the match and maintained control of the outcome throughout the contest.

Maggie Dunbar had 12 kills to lead the way for Milwaukee (6-18), which hit just .097 for the match and could never really get on track. Kayla Price did add 27 assists and 17 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

"Marquette was very good tonight. They showed why they are one of the top teams in the Big East," Milwaukee head coach Susie Johnson said. "While they were good tonight, we have to find a way to come out with more consistency and urgency right from the start. We need to get better at that as we head into this last stretch of league matches."

Marquette started the match with a big run in front of their home crowd, but the Panthers would not go away quietly. UWM tallied five blocks in the opening set – including four by Jess Kalous. Maggie Dunbar helped lead a big comeback effort, drawing back to within striking distance late. But, MU was able to just do enough for the opening-set win.

The Golden Eagles came out flying high in the second, jumping out to an 11-2 lead early. UWM was able to make a few run to draw it to 13-6 after a kill by Kalous but could not get any closer in set number two.

Milwaukee kept things close in the third. After an MU run made it 19-10, Milwaukee answered with a 5-0 run of their own to force the Golden Eagles to take a timeout to try and regroup. The Panthers refused to quit, but Marquette led from start to finish to close things out.

The Panthers now turn their attention back to league play, heading to Highland Heights, Ky. Friday for a 6 pm Central match against conference newcomer Northern Kentucky.
