Oakland Rides Hot Streak Past Panthers

OU hits .386 for the match

MILWAUKEE – Cassie Pelloni had a game-high 13 kills to lead Oakland University to a 3-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team Tuesday night from the Klotsche Center.

The Golden Grizzlies (13-10, 7-2 Horizon) won their fourth in a row – all in straight sets – Tuesday with the 26-24, 25-12, 25-11 win.

Sammi Herron had 10 kills to lead the way for Milwaukee.

UWM (5-16, 3-6 Horizon) also got double-digit efforts from Myanna Ruiz (10 digs) and Kayla Price (29 assists) on the night.

It was back-and-forth in set number one in front of a rocking Klotsche Center crowd. Both teams came out strong and neither could pull away, with great responses from both sides. The Panthers were the first to gain any separation at 12-10 on a kill by Maggie Dunbar and a block by Celine Jones and Nicole Latzig made it 18-14 UWM. The Golden Grizzlies came back and led 24-22, but the Panthers again did some fighting of their own, jumping back on top 25-24 after another kill by Latzig. But Milwaukee just couldn't put it away from there as OU was able to just squeak by in extras in the opening frame.

From there, UWM just couldn't quite find the consistency they had in the opening set.

After a kill by Jones drew it to 7-5 in the second, Oakland went on a 7-0 run, getting runs of 4-0 and 3-0 later in the set en route to the quick win.

The Golden Grizzlies wouldn't let up after the break. Up 5-3, OU rattled off another big run, this time the 12-2 variety before Dunbar finally ended things to make it 17-6. Oakland hit .360 in the third and had an answer for every Panther rally en route to the sweep.

Milwaukee returns to the court Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Youngstown State from the Klotsche Center.
