VERMILLION, S.D. (December 28, 2014) –
Matt Tiby recorded his third double-double of the season, totaling 15 points and a season-best 14 rebounds, but it wasn't enough for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (5-9) to overcome a hot-shooting South Dakota (6-8) squad, which posted an 84-60 victory this afternoon at DakotaDome.

The Panthers held South Dakota's leading scorer, Brandon Bos, nearly seven points below his season average, but Casey Kasperbauer hit seven three-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points to power the Coyotes to the win.

Milwaukee had a hard time getting shots to fall in the opening 20 minutes and converted just 29 percent (9-for-31) of its field-goal attempts in the first half. An 8-0 South Dakota run gave the hosts a 20-11 lead before the Panthers responded with a 10-2 run of their own, culminated by a Cody Wichmann three-pointer, to get within 22-21.

Tyler Larson's jumper provided the first two of 12 unanswered points that put South Dakota on top, 33-21, for its largest lead of the half.

After Eric Robertson opened the second-half scoring with a jumper, Tiby's three-point play trimmed the Coyotes' lead to 35-26. However, Kasperbauer knocked down threes on each of South Dakota's next two possessions to extend the lead to 41-26 and Milwaukee would never get closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

Kasperbauer knocked down all six of his attempts from beyond the arc in the second half as South Dakota shot a sizzling 86 percent (6-for-7) from three-point range and 56 percent (19-for-34) overall.

Akeem Springs produced 11 points off the bench for Milwaukee, which also got 10 points from Wichmann, who was making his first career start.

Larson pitched in 22 points and seven boards for South Dakota, while James Hunter added 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half, and Bos added 10.

Milwaukee continues its five-game road trip when it opens Horizon League play at Cleveland State on January 2.
