Three Seniors Score In Season Finale Win

Milwaukee ends scoreless draught in big way

DETROIT - Three seniors scored in their final collegiate match as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team grabbed a 3-1 win over second-seeded Detroit Friday afternoon from Titan Field.

Milwaukee (6-10-2, 2-4-2 Horizon) closes out its season on a strong note, handing Detroit (8-8-1, 5-3-0 HL) just its first home conference loss since the Panthers last played at Titan Field in 2012.

Krissy Dorre, Morgan LaPlant and Amy Kauffung all scored to bring Milwaukee's goal draught to an emphatic close, after last scoring on Oct. 4 against Cleveland State – a stretch that spanned 442 minutes.

"I'm really proud of how hard the team worked today," Milwaukee head coach Greg Henschel said. "Everybody worked very hard today. Everybody worked very hard all season, really. It was nice to see that hard work pay off and for some people to find the back of the net."

Milwaukee got on the board early after Dorre's goal in the 24th minute. The senior forward had the ball on the left side of the box and lofted it over the Titan keeper to into the right netting to give UWM the early 1-0 lead.

With the goal, Dorre closes out her collegiate career with 67 points, fourth most in program history.

The Panthers continued to pour on the pressure in the first. Vienna Behnke had a blast that went just wide and Amy Kauffung tried her luck from close range but had her shot blocked.

After the break, Detroit caught a break as Jennifer Borawski was able to just slip past the defense and beat an onrushing Paige Lincicum to knot things up at 1-1.

UWM responded well to the equalizer by ramping up their pressure even more. Maria Stephans had a blast that was just saved by the UDM keeper and Kauffung had two more great looks – one again getting blocked by the defense before another hit the crossbar and was inches away from the back of the net.

Finally it was Morgan LaPlant that gave the Panthers the lead back. Dorre had a shot blocked inside the box. Sophomore forward Taylor Swittel was able to get a head on the ball inside the box and send it right to LaPlant. The senior midfielder took a pair of touches before burying her shot to retake the lead, 2-1 at the 64:08 mark.

Kauffung then gave UWM some insurance with a goal in the 83rd minute. The senior took a pass from Kelly Lewers and sent a laser of a shot into the upper 90 to clinch the win for Milwaukee.

UWM finished the game with a 14-8 advantage in shots, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. The Panthers also held a 4-3 lead in corners and were whistled for seven fouls to Detroit's five.
