Box Score

Sept. 22, 2013

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Lindsey Gosh had 13 kills and Autumn Bailey added 11 as Marquette claimed a 25-15, 25-17, 25-14 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center.

The Golden Eagles (6-4) hit .311 for the match and maintained control of the outcome throughout the contest.

Myanna Ruiz had six kills to lead Milwaukee (4-8), which hit just .106 for the match and could never really get on track. Taylor Golabowski did add 10 digs to lead the Panthers' back-row efforts.

The Panthers never found their stride in the first set. A Milwaukee error pushed Marquette to an early 9-4 lead before a kill from Bailey made it 15-8. UWM did pull to within 17-11 on a Julie Kolinske kill but would get no closer. MU eventually led 22-12 and then closed things out on a block followed by a tip-kill from Gosh.

Milwaukee built an early lead but then couldn't maintain the momentum in the second set. The Panthers jumped out to a 6-2 lead on a Myanna Ruiz kill and led 11-6 on a kill by Kolinske. But Marquette answered by scoring 19 of the final 25 points of the frame. The Golden Eagles took the lead for good at 13-12 on a pair of aces by Gosh and eventually went up 21-14 on a kill by Nele Barber. UWM would never get closer than six points after that.

Marquette then finished things off with a convincing performance in the third set. The Golden Eagles went up 10-5 on a block, though Milwaukee was able to close to within 11-9 on a solo block by Nicole Latzig. That's as close as the Panthers would get, though, as a pair of kills by Gosh made it 16-6 and a service ace by Gosh extended the lead to 20-11. Another Golden Eagle block and a kill by Erin Lehman finished things off.

The Panthers now turn their attention to Horizon League play. That schedule opens Friday night when Oakland visits the Klotsche Center in the Golden Grizzlies' first-ever league match.
