AMES, Iowa (Sept. 16, 2012) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team conceded a goal in each half and could not overcome the deficit in falling to Iowa State 2-1 Sunday afternoon at ISU Soccer Complex.

The Panthers (1-5-1) dropped its fifth-straight game despite holding the momentum and the play throughout much of the contest. The Cyclones (7-3) were buoyed by the second goal and were able to hold off UWM from there.

"I thought we had an inconsistent performance today," UWM head coach Greg Henschel said. "But, we were able to pick up some good notes and keep working forward and getting ready for conference play."

Milwaukee dodged the shutout with just four seconds remaining, when Kelly Lewers finished off a header from Krissy Dorre. The play started on a bounding ball towards the ISU box. Dorre beat the keeper with her header and Lewers followed the play, navigating a pair of defenders to finish into the empty goal.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, the goal came too late to mount a rally. They were the better side for much of the first half, limiting the Cyclones to long shots for the majority of the contest. Jennifer Dominguez put the hosts up 1-0 on a floating shot that snuck under the cross bar to put ISU ahead in the 14th minute.

Despite allowing the goal, Milwaukee picked up the pace from that point and held long extended attacking periods. The team was just unable to navigate a crowded, physical Iowa State defense for the equalizer and went into the intermission trailing.

It was more of the same in the second half, but UWM's attack lacked the urgency it showed in the first half. The Panthers continued to hold possession save for some isolated Cyclone shots forward, one of which resulted in their second score.

A header came out of the midfield and caught Milwaukee keeper Jamie Forbes at an in between point, Kaeli Flaska tracked the ball, got around Forbes and finished on an empty net. The shot was ISU's first that was not within steps of outside the penalty area.

Iowa State amped up its pressure that point to seal the game.

Forbes finished with six saves, while Maddie Jobe stopped four in goal for Iowa State. She subbed out in the 77th minute after a collision with UWM's Hannah Kaul and Andrea Swanson picked up the final 13-plus minutes in the net.

The Cyclones held a misleading 18-9 advantage in shots and forced three more corner kicks (7-4), including a series of four in a row. ISU was also whistled for 12 fouls, compared to just three by Milwaukee.

The Panthers return to action next Saturday, hosting Wright State in their Horizon League opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Engelmann Stadium.
