MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Aug. 26, 2012) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team conceded three unanswered goals in the second half in falling to Miami University, 4-2, on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon at Engelmann Stadium.

The Panthers (1-2-1) had claimed a 2-1 after scoring goals within a minute of halftime in both the first and second half, but could not fend off the RedHawk (3-1) attack in the second half.

"(It was a) very casual second half by our team," UWM head coach Greg Henschel said. "I wish we would have put a little more assertiveness into our (play) in the second half, a little more concentration. I'm really glad we came from behind, but scoring early in the second half may not have served us well in our mindset to finish out the game the way we needed to."

Jess Kodiak put MU ahead in the 13th minute, bending in a corner kick off keeper Jamie Forbes' gloves. Milwaukee did well from that point to seize control of the game for the remainder of the half. While it took some time for the offense to get some traction, UWM broke through for the equalizer just 27 seconds before the break.

Kelsey Holbert began the scoring play, taking the ball down the sidelines and sending a ball into Amy Kauffung in the box. Kauffung then sent a shot at the far post, finding the back of the net off the inside of the post.

After halftime, the Panthers' momentum continued, as Helen Steinhauser gave her them a 2-1 lead just 33 seconds into the period. Milwaukee drew a quick foul approximately 23 yards out, in the middle of the field. Steinhauser stepped up and sent the ensuing free kick low and inside the post for the unassisted score.

The momentum would not last, as the Miami offense overtook the UWM for three unanswered goals and the result.

Hailey Pleshakov knotted the game at 2-2 in the 50th minute, finishing a loose ball into the net. Then, in the 65th minute, the Panthers were unable to clear a corner kick and Haley Walter pounced on the ball and scoring the game-winner. Walter would add another score in the 82nd minute to put the game out of reach.

Despite the scoreline, Forbes played well in goal, making a couple spectacular saves and finishing with four for the game. Allison Norenberg made two saves to preserve the win.

Miami outshot the Panthers, 15-11, including 13-7 in the second half, while Milwaukee was able to force two more corner kicks (6-4).

UWM returns to action next Saturday at No. 22 Illinois. The Panthers and Illini kick off at 6 p.m. in Champaign-Urbana.
