CLEVELAND, Ohio (Sept. 16, 2011) - Three different Panthers scored goals in the first half and Helen Steinhauser had three assists as the No. 17/11 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team defeated Cleveland State, 4-0, Friday evening at Krenzler Field.

It was the Horizon League opener for both teams, as the Panthers (8-1, 1-0 Horizon) continued their school-record start to the season. The Vikings (5-3, 0-1 Horizon), meanwhile, saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

"I thought we played pretty well tonight," Milwaukee head coach Michael Moynihan said. "We had three goals by half and could have had a couple more. We were able to get everybody in, which was good, and everybody got to play significant minutes. We kept up the pace pretty well and got some nice goals."

Sarah Hagen continued her dominant season with two goals, pushing her season total to 11 in nine games. She scored what stood up as the game-winner in the 23rd minute, a header off a cross from Steinhauser to put Milwaukee ahead 1-0.

Just seven minutes later, Steinhauser picked up her second assist, finding the head of Emily Scott on a corner kick. It was the first career goal for Scott. Laurel Ragalie staked the Panthers to a 3-0 lead just minutes before halftime. She headed home a lofting cross from Keara Thompson.

It was the second goal of the season for Ragalie and Thompson's team-high sixth assist of the season.

Hagen capped the scoring in the 58th minute. She received a pass from Steinhauser on the near side, settled the ball in the box and fired it into the net.

Milwaukee dictated play for much of the game, outshooting Cleveland 18-4 in the game, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Panthers also forced seven more corner kicks (8-1).

"Keara was really good," Moynihan said. "She linked a lot of things for us and got a nice assist. Stat-wise, she had just one assists, but she did a lot for us. Helen (and Keara) were catalysts for the offense today, getting the ball through the midfield and keeping out tempo. In the back, Kenzie (Gillaspie) and Emily Scott were solid in the middle."

The UWM defense posted another strong performance, not yielding many scoring chances to the home-standing Vikings. Jamie Forbes saved the only shot she faced for her fifth shutout of the season.

The Panthers return to action next weekend, hosting Western Illinois and Detroit at Engelmann Stadium. WIU visits Friday and the Titans follow Sunday.
