DAYTON, Ohio (Oct. 1, 2011) - Sarah Hagen scored two goals and Keara Thompson added a goal and an assist as the No. 12-ranked University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team handed Wright State a 3-1 loss Saturday evening at Alumni Field.

The Panthers (11-1, 3-0 Horizon), who are ranked 12th in this week's Soccer America national poll and No. 14 by the NSCAA, won for the fifth-straight time and improved to 3-0 in league play. The Raiders, meanwhile, fell to 5-5-2 and 0-2-1 in league play.

"Going on the road and getting a convincing road win is great," Milwaukee head coach Michael Moynihan said. "I was really happy with play in the second half. I was happy that we came out, executed what we talked about and had a lot of really good chances."

Thompson got the game's scoring started on UWM's first real attacking threat in the match. She had back-to-back shots on the play, having her first attempt blocked and getting her own rebound. She then beat the keeper from the center of the penalty box.

The goal came in the 32nd minute and turned the momentum of the game in favor of the Panthers. Prior to the score, Wright State had been able to clog the midfield and limit the Milwaukee attack going forward. UWM would control the pace of play for the remainder of the opening frame and carry that over into the second half.

Hagen gave the Panthers what turned out to be the game-winner in the 50th minute, converting after a ball was played across the field to her just outside the penalty area. Hagen received and settled the ball before unleashing a shot to the far post for the score.

Hagen nearly made it 3-0 with a breakaway 10 minutes later, but Brooke McCurdy did well to come off her line and make a kick save on the 1v1 opportunity. Hagen would get a second goal and a 3-0 lead for her team in the 82nd minute. On that play, she took a pass from Thompson into the penalty area and slid the ball far post and into the goal.

Milwaukee finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots, including 6-5 in shots on goal. The Panther defense had another strong outing, despite surrendering a goal in the closing minutes while nursing a 3-0 lead. Jamie Forbes made three saves, while her counterpart McCurdy finished with four saves for Wright State.

In the second half, Milwaukee outshot WSU 12-4 and controlled the possession for much of the period.

Despite a strong defensive effort by UWM, the Raiders would find the back of the net in 88th minute off the foot of Brittany Persaud.

The Panthers return to action Wednesday, hosting Valparaiso at Engelmann Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised live on Time Warner Sports 32 in Milwaukee.
