SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Aug. 22, 2010) - No. 4 Notre Dame scored three second-half goals to hand the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team a 3-0 defeat Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

The Panthers fall to 1-1 on the season after a season-opening 2-1 win at Ohio State Friday. Meanwhile, Rose Augustin scored two goals to lead the Fighting Irish (2-0).

"It was a story of two halves," UWM head coach Michael Moynihan said. "This is the first time we came here and really dictated the play over the first 45 minutes. I thought we were fantastic. We had the majority of the possession and had a number of dangerous chances, forced their keepers into a couple of nice saves and had a couple other near misses."

Milwaukee came out of the gates aggressively, controlling play throughout much of the first half. Despite being unable to score, UWM held the majority of the possession through the frame and outshot the home team 10-5. Four of those shots went on goal.

Makenzie Gillaspie, who had a game-high four shots, had UWM's best strike of the half, sending a blast at the far post from the near corner of the penalty area. Weiss was able to make a sprawling save to push the ball over the endline.

In the second half, the Irish made adjustments and got a bit of luck to put the game out of reach midway through the period. Elizabeth Tucker scored the game's first goal, which held up as the game-winner, in the 52nd minute on a deflection off a Panther defender.

"I thought we did great. This was also the first time that we have been here that we've forced Notre Dame to switch (formation)," Moynihan said. "They came out in a 4-3-3 and switched to a 4-4-2 in the second half to neutralize some of the things we had been doing. Even at the beginning of the second half we kept going at them and had a couple of nice chances. What it comes down to was two deflections."

Augustin's first score was a re-direction of a routine shot from Melissa Henderson in the 65th minute. Five minutes later, Erica Iantorno made a strong run at the endline and slid a cross through the 18-yard box to Augustin at the far post.

Milwaukee did not fold despite surrendering the first goal, but Notre Dame was able to take the momentum in the game over with each successive score.

Leslie Deebach started the match in goal and played the first half with a pair of saves. Jamie Forbes made three saves, while playing the second 45 minutes.

Weiss finished with five saves for the Fighting Irish.

The Panthers return to action next weekend, co-hosting the Milwaukee Cup with Marquette. UWM takes on New Mexico on Friday at 5 p.m. and Auburn Sunday at 11 a.m. All games will be played at MU's Valley Field.
