Men's Basketball November 20, 2010 Boyle's Jumper Sends Panthers Past Northern Iowa Box Score Nov. 20, 2010 Box Score | Audio: Milwaukee Postgame Press Conference | Postgame Extra | MILWAUKEE - Tone Boyle hit a jumper with 2.4 seconds remaining to send the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to a thrilling 65-63 win over Northern Iowa Saturday night at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The final shot came after Kerwin Dunham hit a pair of free throws to tie the game with 16 seconds remaining. The Panthers (3-2) then called timeout once the ball crossed midcourt and got the ball to Boyle on a handoff. He nearly lost it but gathered it in time to knock down a 17-footer. Ryan Allen then blocked Lucas O'Rear's shot attempt at the buzzer. Anthony Hill led Milwaukee with 17 points before fouling out with 4:02 remaining. Boyle added 12 points and Lonnie Boga had 10. The Panthers had a 40-29 rebounding edge, collecting 10 offensive boards which led to 14 second-chance points. UWM also had a 30-20 advantage on points in the paint. Kwadzo Ahelegbe had 14 points to lead Northern Iowa (1-2). "For early in the season, I thought that game was well-played," UWM head coach Rob Jeter said. "Northern Iowa is a team that is used to winning and you could see that down the stretch. They never really rattled and stayed committed to what they wanted to do. They made some big plays, but fortunately for us we were able to make some too down the stretch." The Panthers took an 18-14 lead on a three-point play by Hill with eight minutes left and then retook the advantage at 26-25 on a pair of Hill free throws with just over four minutes left. The lead grew to 30-25 on a layup by Ryan Allen with three minutes left and was at five again when Boyle hit a three to make it 35-30 with 1:02 remaining. A jumper by Allen with 14 seconds left gave Milwaukee a four-point lead at the half. Milwaukee actually led by as many as 10 in the second half, with a three-pointer by Boyle making it 51-31 with 11:50 remaining. UWM still had the edge at six when Allen hit a jumper with 3:36 left, but a steal and layin by Anthony James tied the game at 61 with 1:49 left. Allen and Kaylon each hit single free throws before the two free throws from Dunham tied it. That set the stage for Boyle's heroics. UWM continues its five-game homestand Tuesday with its "Retro Night" contest at the Klotsche Center. The Panthers will take on Western Michigan at 7 p.m. Print Friendly Version
