MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Oct. 9, 2009) - Sophomore Sarah Hagen scored three goals for her second-straight hat trick and senior Kate Megna became the program's career leader in assists as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team handily defeated Cleveland State, 8-0, Friday night at Engelmann Field.

Hagen is the first player in school history with back-to-back hat tricks and has now scored goals in six-straight games. Meanwhile, Megna tallied three assists to push her career total to 29 and break the school record of 26 career assists, which she shared entering the match.

Milwaukee (6-5-3, 4-0 Horizon) won for the fourth-straight time and remains perfect against the Vikings (2-10-1, 1-2-1 Horizon), 10-0, all-time.

"You have to be happy with the result. It was pretty convincing," UWM head coach Michael Moynihan said. "At halftime, we were only up 2-nil, so to get that kind of output in the second half, I thought, was very good. It's pretty incredible the quality and the number of chances we created."

Sophomore Laurel Ragalie actually got the scoring started with a pair of first-half goals. Her first score proved to be the game-winner, while her second came off Megna's record-breaking assist. Megna launched a shot that the CSU keeper was unable to corral and Ragalie pushed it into the net to make it 2-0 in the 28th minute.

After halftime, the goals came fast and furious. Hagen picked up her first goal in the 53rd minute off a Megna corner kick. Just 37 seconds later, senior Erin Kreuser was taken down in the box and Hagen converted the ensuing penalty kick. Megna once again set up Hagen in the 61st minute for her third goal of the evening.

UWM was not done there, as sophomore Makenzie Gillaspie scored just 36 seconds later to make it 6-0. Sophomore Sammy Vovos and freshman Meghan Elvington would add their first collegiate goals in the 64th and 80th minutes, respectively. Ragalie assisted on Vovos' score for her fifth point of the game.

Milwaukee controlled the momentum through the entire match. In the first half, the Panthers were patient, but eventually found their rhythm and forged an 18-1 shot advantage. They maintained that intensity in the second half as more players got into the game and looked to score.

For the game, UWM outshot Cleveland State, 37-1, and took all seven of the game's corner kicks. Milwaukee sent 14 shots on frame and forced the Viking defense into three team saves in support of its keeper. In the second half, 16 of the Panthers' 19 shots were on goal.

Freshman Jamie Forbes picked up her second-straight shutout, needing only to organize the defense in lieu of making any saves. The clean sheet is her sixth of the season. Her counterpart Kelly Zinkiewich made 11 saves on the night.

The Panthers return to action Sunday, hosting Youngstown State at noon.
