INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -
Shawn Vanzant scored 20 and Shelvin Mack added 14 as 16th-ranked Butler captured a 78-48 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Saturday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
UWM shot just 24.1 percent for the game, making only 13-of-54 shots from the field.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs (18-1, 9-0 Horizon) made 15 three-pointers in claiming their 14th-straight home win.
Tone Boyle scored 15 points to lead Milwaukee (12-8, 7-3 Horizon), which lost for the second-straight time.
Milwaukee made just 3-of-24 shots in the first half as Butler opened a 13-point lead at the break. Then, the Bulldogs started the second half on a 13-2 run to put the game away.
UWM's offensive struggles started early, as the Panthers scored just four points in the first eight-plus minutes of the game. Butler then looked like it might pull away, using a 15-4 run to go with 23-8 with 7:44 remaining.
But, the Panthers did strike back, as a three by Tony Meier brought Milwaukee within 23-15 with 6:23 left. The Bulldogs claimed control after that, though, scoring 22 of the next 28 points to build a 45-21 advantage within the first four minutes of the second half.
From there, Milwaukee briefly cut the lead under 20 points but could never mount a serious challenge.
UWM returns home this week, hosting Loyola Wednesday and UIC Saturday.
