MILWAUKEE, Wis. - After a 61-minute lightning delay, senior Katie Campion needed just 77 seconds of overtime to send the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team to a 1-0 overtime win over Illinois State on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Engelmann Field. Campion scored her second game-winner of the weekend for the Panthers (4-4-2), after doing so Friday night at UW-Green Bay.

Following a delay that featured some lightning and a torrential downpour, Milwaukee controlled the overtime period and got the golden goal when Illinois State was unable to clear the ball out of the attacking third. Senior Kitty Montgomery started the play, taking control of a failed clear attempt and sending a ball into the far corner.

Junior Stacey Faude tracked down the ball and sent a cross through the box. Junior Elicia Scaife flicked the ball from the near post to the far post where Campion volleyed a shot past the Redbird keeper in the 92nd minute.

"That's two in a row for Katie Campion. She is really starting to come around," head coach Michael Moynihan said. "She came back from an injury earlier in the year and is starting to get her legs back and her wind back. Katie is a deceptive player."

Freshman Erin Kane made three saves on the day for her fourth shutout of the season, after missing Friday's match with an elbow injury. Her counterpart, Andrea Shaw, also stopped three shots for Illinois State. The Panthers gained advantages in shots, 12-8, and corner kicks, 4-3.

The match started out as a back-and-forth affair, with the teams alternated periods on the attack. Stingy defense on the part of UWM's back line limited the ISU forwards to just two shots in the first half. Milwaukee, meanwhile, had better success, putting two of its five first-half shots on goal.

"Early on, they had a threat that worried me," Moynihan said. "After that, our defense did a good job and did not concede much. Each team really had stretches where they controlled the game."

In the second half, the Panthers played on the defensive early, smothering each Redbird attack. With 15 minutes remaining, UWM's offense took charge and forced a number of scoring chances. Its' best opportunity came on a Campion shot that beat Shaw from 30 yards out, but was negated by an offsides call.

Milwaukee returns to action Friday, hosting Cleveland State at Engelmann Field, before a road match at Butler Sunday. UWM and CSU square off at 4 p.m., while Sunday's contest is slated for a noon central time kick-off.
