GREEN BAY, Wis. (Nov. 3, 2005) - Six different players scored and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team outshot Cleveland State 29-0 in rolling to an 8-0 victory Thursday afternoon in the Horizon League Quarterfinals at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

With the win, the top-seeded Panthers (11-4-3) advance to the semifinals, where they will play the winner of No. 4 Wright State and No. 5 Butler Friday at 4 p.m.

Milwaukee dominated the stat sheet, holding an opponent without a shot for the third time in team history, and first since outshooting Western Illinois, 59-0, Sept. 5, 1997. In addition to the 29-shot advantage, UWM forced all 12 of the game's corner kicks and committed nine less fouls (15-6), while neither team was flagged for offsides.

"When the other team does not register a shot, you know it's been a dominant performance," head coach Michael Moynihan said. "As the top seed, to play the eighth seed, the key is to not get sloppy or injured and to get through the game. We did that and also were able to finish and get goals."

The Panthers dictated the tempo of the game for 90 minutes, with freshman Jodi Klagos and sophomore Amanda Winn scoring two goals apiece, and senior Andrea Kramer, junior Molly Duffy and sophomores Pam Shipway and Joanna Severson adding scores of their own.

Klagos gave the Panthers the 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the 11th and 13th minutes. The eventual game-winner came when senior Katie Campion slotted a ball down the right side to Klagos. The Viking keeper came off her line and Klagos found the back of the net.

Just two minutes later, she scored a second-phase goal off assists from senior Elizabeth Chudy and junior Taylor Powell. Senior Janice McGann sent a ball into the box and after touches from Chudy and Powell, Klagos volleyed a shot into the net from the right side.

Sophomore Amanda Winn sent Milwaukee into halftime with a 4-0 lead, scoring a pair of unassisted free kick strikes. In the 42nd minute, Cleveland's Ashley Spahn was issued a yellow card just outside the penalty area. Winn converted the free kick from 25 yards out, hitting the ball to the right of the wall and keeper. Junior Elicia Scaife drew a foul just minutes late at the top of the box and Winn again scored on the impending free kick.

For the half, UWM outshot Cleveland State, 18-0, and forced all five corner kicks. The Panthers were also whistled for just one foul, compared to 11 by the Vikings. Klagos led the way with four shots, while the team sent six on goal.

"We did what we needed to do today," Moynihan said. "Everybody played well, moving the ball and getting into a good rhythm."

Duffy opened the second-half scoring, subbing in on a corner kick in the 64th minute, then heading home sophomore Ginny Graczyk's impending corner. Shipway in the 76th minute and Kramer in the 79th made it 7-0, before Severson scored the eighth goal of the day in the 89th minute, unassisted.

Freshman Erin Kane was the beneficiary of solid defending from a number of sources, not being called upon to make a save and not facing a scoring threat on the day. She picked up her 10th shutout of the season, moving into sole possession of second place on the league's single-season shutout list, and extending her own school record. Erin Withrow allowed five goals and made four saves as Cleveland's starting keeper, before giving way to Melisa Mezanec (3 GA, 1 save) in the 72nd minute.

Today was the Panthers' second game of season where they scored seven-or-more goals, their first eight-goal showing since 1997 and the eighth since moving to Division I in 1990.
