Green Bay Snaps UWM's Winning Streak

Jan. 29, 2005

Box Score

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Brandon Morris scored 18 points to lead five players in double figures as the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay snapped the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's eight-game winning streak with a 76-72 victory Saturday at the Resch Center.

The Panthers led 72-71 on a Chris Hill layin with 1:50 remaining but a Benito Flores basket, a Morris jumper and a free throw by Flores gave the Phoenix the win.

Joah Tucker scored 20 points to lead the Panthers (15-5, 8-2 Horizon), but Tucker spent more than seven minutes on the bench with four fouls.

The Phoenix (14-5, 7-2) also got 17 points from Matt Rohde and 15 points off the bench from Flores in avenging a 30-point loss in Milwaukee earlier this season.

Ed McCants added 16 points for UWM, which saw its hold on first place in the league trimmed to one-half game.

"It was a great game, a great atmosphere," UWM head coach Bruce Pearl said. "Green Bay did a lot of good things out there, especially in the second half. They made some plays down the stretch.

"They're 10-1 at home now. They play better at home. They play with more confidence. They shot 64 percent in the second half. That was pretty much the difference."

Green Bay led by as many as seven points in the first half and by as many six in the second half before UWM rallied. The Panthers tied the game at 61 on a three by Hill with 7:11 remaining and built a 65-62 edge on an Adrian Tigert layin.

But the Panthers couldn't extend their advantage further, as the Phoenix pulled out a win that keeps the Horizon League championship race very much alive.

UWM returns to action Wednesday night, playing at Wright State in a 6 p.m. CST contest.
