Sarah Potts had 21 kills and 10 digs to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to an impressive 30-23, 30-24, 30-12 win over Charlotte Friday night in the first match of the Diet Coke Classic.
UWM (10-1) hit .295 for the match, led by Potts' .543 attack percentage, while the Panthers limited the 49ers (5-7) to a .049 clip. Eleven different UWM players saw action in the match as the Panthers dominated most of the play.
Karen Fruit added 10 kills and 18 digs while Larissa Cattanach had seven kills and seven blocks. Robin Alt also had 13 digs while Lindsey Spoden directed the offense with 35 assists.
"It was a very steady match," UWM head coach Kathy Litzau said. "They pushed us for the first half of the first two games, but then we just took off. In the third game we never looked back. It was really a great effort."
UWM continues play in the tournament with two stiff challenges Saturday. The Panthers will face Colorado State at 10 a.m. and 22nd-ranked Minnesota at 7:30 p.m. Those two teams were playing Friday night.
