Panthers Claim Four-Game Win At UIC

CHICAGO - Karen Fruit and Larissa Cattanach had 16 kills apiece to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to a 30-28, 30-16, 26-30, 30-21 win over the University of Illinois at Chicago Friday night.

The Panthers (15-3, 4-0 Horizon) have now won five-straight matches overall and remain atop the Horizon League standings. The win was the 199th in the career of UWM head coach Kathy Litzau.

UWM controlled play much of the night, hitting .253 to just .122 for UIC. In the decisive fourth game, the Panthers hit .349.

Fruit added 18 digs while setter Lindsey Spoden had six kills, 17 digs, 44 assists and four blocks.

UWM, playing without injured senior Sarah Potts, also got strong contributions from two freshmen. Cheryl Hegemann had seven kills, nine digs and seven blocks while Melissa David had seven kills and six digs.

Teaha Shepperd led the Flames (7-13, 0-5) with 19 kills and 24 digs.

The Panthers continue their Chicago road swing Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. contest at Loyola.
