UWM could not overcome 12 service errors and a .037 hitting percentage in falling to Sacramento State, 30-22, 30-21, 30-11, Friday night in the opening match of the IKON/Husky Classic.
Sarah Potts had 13 kills to lead the Panthers (1-3), who allowed seven service aces and did not collect one themselves.
Jayme Wright led the Hornets (4-1) with 14 kills. Sacramento State hit .185 for the match.
"It was definitely a beatable team. They're a good team by we just really didn't show up to play," UWM head coach Kathy Litzau said. "We really lost our ball control which is the part of the game that sustains us. This team needs to come together."
Larissa Cattanach had four blocks to lead the Panther defense, while Kristen Krubsack had 10 digs.
UWM continues play in the tournament Saturday, facing UCONN at 1:30 p.m. and Temple at 4 p.m.
