Panther Men's Soccer Wins Horizon League Opener 5-0 Over Loyola

Sept. 24, 2002

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Loyola University's men's soccer team has probably seen more than enough of Antou Jallow. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee sophomore, torched the Ramblers for three goals and an assist in leading UWM to a 5-0 victory over the visitors here Tuesday (Sept. 24) in the 2002 Horizon League opener for both teams. Milwaukee improved to 5-1-1 with its fifth straight victory while LU fell to 3-5-0 on the season. With the seven points, Jallow now leads the conference with 22 points in seven games.

From the opening kick there appeared to be little doubt in regards to superiority as UWM took five shots and six corner kicks in the game's first 15 minutes. Milwaukee eventually capitalized on one of its numerous first half chances when Tighe Dombrowski tapped in a shot in front of the net for the game's first goal and eventual match-winner. Dombrowski's score was set up by a specatular one-on-one move by B.J. Blake and a nifty one-touch pass from his brother, Neil Dombrowski.

Supersub Bobby Lish gave UWM a 2-0 lead just ten minutes later when he scored his second goal of the year at the 31:50 mark in the first half. Lish chipped a 15-yarder over the LU goalkeeper's head after accepting a pass from Jallow, who headed a long-ball from Chris Brisson. Lish has done his best Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson impression lately as the junior has notched two goals and three assists off the bench in UWM's last three games.

Everyone involved in the match knew it was just a matter of time before Jallow got involved and the Swede did just that at the 38:12 mark. The striker volleyed a 10-yard shot from the center of the box for his seventh goal of the year. Junior midfielder Julian Chang assisted on the goal, marking the fifth time the pair has hooked up for a score this season.

UWM's scoring machine continued his frantic pace in the second half as Jallow earned his first career hit trick with two more tallies in the frame. Jallow blasted home a six-yard blast at the 59:26 mark to put UWM ahead 4-0 and then followed that up with his third-goal of the match and ninth of the season at the 70:20 mark for the game's final tally. Jallow headed a ball past Loyola's Colin Lyman thanks to a cross from Kyle Lance and a heading pass from Tighe Dombrowski.

"Antou is just a fabulous goal scorer and he is willing to take chances," UWM head coach Louis Bennett said. "Because he is willing to take chances he puts himself in position to score some goals and so far he has been finishing very well."

Milwaukee dominated the game on the scoreboard and statistically as the Loyola offense struggled to garner any momentum all night. UWM outshot the visitors 17-4 on the match while registering ten corner kicks to Loyola's two. The shutout was the second in three matches and the 13th in the career of senior goalkeeper Chris Dadaian. Dadaian is now tied for third with his career shutout total while he stands alone in third place on the all-time charts with 29 wins.

"We just really had a great performance in the first half," Bennett added. "We were attacking and playing some exciting soccer. We are a very offensive minded team but we know how important defense is. If you dont make any stops and halt the opponent's runs then you can't attack. We have been doing a great job of doing that lately."

UWM will enjoy a week off before getting back to action on Wednesday, October 2. The Panthers will travel to Chicago, Ill., to face longtime league rival University of Illinois-Chicago at 3 p.m. on the UIC campus.
