EVANSTON, IL -
It was a night of threes for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team as the Panthers claimed a 3-0 victory over Northwestern University here Wednesday (Sept. 18). With the three-goal victory UWM posted its third win of the season and now has a season-best three-game winning streak. The Panthers now sit at 3-1-1 on the season while Northwestern fell to 3-4-0.
"We played very well tonight, especially without a couple of starters out there in Khaled El-Ahman and Chad Dombrowski who missed the game due to injuries," UWM head coach Louis Bennett said. "We played well with an unfamiliar lineup and that's not always easy to do."
The Panthers controlled the game from the beginning and took a 1-0 lead just 7:40 into the match. Antou Jallow, who had just entered the match, drove home a free kick for his fourth goal of the year and the eventual match-winner. UWM outshot the hosts five to two in the first half while controlling tempo for much of the stanza.
UWM quickly made it 2-0 in the early moments of the second half when Julian Chang struck for the third time this season. The junior tapped home a rebound shot at the 54:18 mark for his ninth point of the season. The Panthers sealed the Wildcats fate just over ten minutes later when B.J. Blake notched his first goal of the 2002 campaign. The junior drove home a shot at the 64:52 mark off a pass from Jallow. With the assist, Jallow took sole possession of the team scoring lead with 10 points on the year.
In addition to the fine work displayed by the offense, the UWM defense played a solid game as well, holding NU to two shots and three corner kicks on the night. The match marked the return of netminder Chris Dadaian in goal after missing the season's first four matches with an injury. The senior stopped two shots to record his 13th career shutout as he moved into fifth place on the program's all-time list.
"Chris looked good tonight," Bennett added. "His injuries seem to have healed and that is always a concern. Overall, I thought he played very well all things considered."
The Panthers will return to action Saturday (Sept. 21) when they take on IUPU-Ft. Wayne in a non-conference match. The game is set for 2 p.m. in Green Bay, Wis.
