Aug. 18, 2002

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - A pair of second-half goals were all the offense UWM needed to open the 2002 preseason with a win, as the Panthers downed Oakland University Sunday at Engelmann Field.

After a scoreless first half, Tighe Dombrowski broke the tie with a hard shot past Oakland goalkeeper Jeff Wiese to put UWM ahead in the 67th minute. Kyle Lance scored an insurance goal six minutes later, putting home a shot into an empty net.

Chris Dadaian and Brad Swenby combined for the shutout, with Swenby picking up the only save on the afternoon. The Panther defense held Oakland to just four shots in the game. For Oakland, Wiese had 12 saves as the Panthers peppered the Grizzly goal with 21 shots.

UWM will play another exhibition match on Thursday, as UW-Oshkosh visits Engelmann Field. Game time is 6 p.m.
