UWM Moves Past Drake In Four Games

Sept. 8, 2001

Stats

MILWAUKEE - Laura Dallenbach had 20 kills to lead four Panthers in double figures as UWM defeated Drake, 34-36, 30-28, 30-21, 30-19, Saturday morning in the opening match of day two of the Powerade Panther Invitational.

UWM (3-2) fought back from a nine-point deficit to make game one close, then pulled out a close game two by scoring the final two points. UWM controlled games three and four, limiting the Bulldogs (1-3) to a .029 hitting percentage in the deciding game.

"To be honest, it was a great match," UWM coach Kathy Litzau said. "I thought Drake was a really good team. We broke them down a little in games three and four. It's good to get a test like this early in the season."

Dallenbach's 20 kills are a season high. Larissa Cattanach added 14, Sarah Potts 12 and Chrissy Schurla 10. Lindsey Spoden had 15 digs and 53 assists for the Panthers.

Also in tournament play, DePaul (5-0) beat Southeast Missouri State (1-4) in three games. Tonight, SEMO plays Drake at 5 p.m. while UWM squares off with DePaul for the tournament title at 7 p.m.
