MILWAUKEE -Ryan Seymour scored two goals and added an assist to help UWM (2-0) defeat Northwestern (0-2-1), 4-0, Wednesday afternoon at Engelmann Field. The Panthers' relentless attack outshot the Wildcats, 31-4.

"We had a great 4-0 performance with two goals in the first half and two in the second," UWM coach Louis Bennett said. "I'm not one for statistics, but it definitely tells a story when you outshoot a team by that many shots and not allow any shots at all in the first half."

In just the second minute of the game, Seymour finished a cross sent in to the near post by Kyle Lance. The senior forward scored from eight yards out to give the Panthers the early lead. Sophomore midfielder

Chris Brisson added UWM's second goal in the 36th minute when he drilled a 25-yard shot past goalkeeper Ryan Pederman. Brisson scored after Northwestern headed a clear into open space, allowing Brisson to run on to the loose ball and rip a shot one time.

Up 2-0 at halftime, sophomore forward Kyle Lance scored for UWM at the 57:14 mark off assists from Tighe Dombrowski and Seymour. Dombrowski stole the ball from Northwestern's defense and ended up driving the ball to Seymour at the near post. Seymour touched it back to Lance, who prepped it and curled a shot past Pederman for the goal.

Seymour added his second goal of the game when he scored from 15 yards out on the right, coming off a through ball from Lance to split Northwestern's defense. Seymour led UWM with 10 shots, including nine shots on goal. Pederman recorded 14 saves for the Wildcats, while junior goalkeeper Chris Dadain posted a shut out for the Panthers.

"More pleasing to me is that we had a specific game plan for sections of the game, and our players executed it well," Bennett said. "The number one thing for our team to do is to play a solid and quality defense. That then creates a platform for our attack. We've proven we can do just that against certain style of opposition."

UWM looks forward to hosting its 28th annual Panther Invitational this weekend, welcoming Saint Mary's, Eastern Illinois and UW-Green Bay to Engelmann Field. The longest-running tournament in Division I history will take place Sat.-Sun., Sept. 8-9, with UWM playing at 2 p.m. both days.
