UWM Women's Soccer Handles Green Bay, 2-0

Box Score

Sept. 25, 2001

GREEN BAY-Erin Blaedow scored a goal and set up another to lead the UWM women's soccer (4-2 overall, 2-0 Horizon League) over UW-Green Bay, 2-0, Tuesday night at Phoenix Field.

"It was nice to get the early lead today again," UWM coach Michael Moynihan said. "We dominated the whole game to keep control, and were able to put a lot of players in the game tonight."

The Panthers got on the board in the 18th minute when junior forward Amy Oechsner scored off an assist from Blaedow. Blaedow sent a long ball through the middle of the field to split Green Bay's defense, and Oechsner ran on to finish from 12 yards out.

Blaedow scored the Panthers' second goal in the 33rd minute after Green Bay turned the ball over in its own goal box. The senior midfielder took possession in traffic and curled it into the side netting from 15 yards out. UWM took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

"I really liked the way we controlled the midfield," Moynihan said. Green Bay did some things to jam it in the middle and played physical, but we figured it out."

Milwaukee continued dominating in the second half, but was unable to put any balls in the back of the net. The Panthers outshot the Phoenix, 22-9 overall, including nine shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Kerri St. Aubin recorded two saves on the match, while junior Mary Duffy came in the second half to record two saves.

"Dominating like we've done the past two games has allowed us to rest a lot of players," Moynihan said. "That's a big key to the weekend coming up, as we have two tough games that we'll be able to stay fresh for."

UWM recorded its fourth-straight win and third-straight shutout, with the last two games coming in Horizon League play. The Panthers travel to Illinois State on Friday for a 4 p.m. match, before hosting Arkansas on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
