BOWLING GREEN, OHIO-Antou Jallow scored two goals and Kyle Lance added one to lead the UWM men's soccer team (6-1-0) past Dayton (3-2-1), 3-2, Saturday afternoon at the Bowling Green Tournament.
"It was an ugly but effective performance," UWM coach Louis Bennett said. "It's one of those games that we would normally do well. But we didn't play well and there wasn't a good rhythm. We could have easily sewn up the game by finishing a lot of our opportunities to score, but we squandered three good 1v1 chances."
Lance scored the game's first goal when he connected on a corner kick from sophomore Bobby Lish in the 19th minute. Lance shot past Dayton goalkeeper Matt Hutchins to reach the inside top netting. The Flyers' Chris Rolfe scored just less than a minute later to equalize.
Jallow scored both goals off headers, with the first one coming on a double assist from Lish and junior defender Chad Dombrowski at the 26:14 mark. Lish's cross hit Dombrowski at the far post, and Dombrowski headed it back to the near post for Jallow to finish. The freshman midfielder scored his second goal in the 39th minute when he headed down a cross from senior forward Ryan Seymour, giving the Panthers the 3-1 lead into halftime.
"Our attacking in the offensive third was superb in the first half," Bennett said. "We had great opportunities in the first phase and even second phase of play."
Forward Tye Stebbins scored late for Dayton in the 84th minute to trail UWM, 3-2, to the end of regulation.
Milwaukee plays host Bowling Green on Sunday at 2 p.m. central time. The Falcons tied Canisus, 0-0, in the match following UWM on Saturday.
