MILWAUKEE - Katie Kubacki and Evann Franklin scored goals as the UWM women's
soccer team claimed a dominating 2-0 victory over IPFW Friday afternoon at
Engelmann Field.
The Panthers (7-2) outshot the Mastadons (2-9) 27-2 in claiming their seventh-
straight win, the first time since 1994 UWM has won seven consecutive times.
Kubacki's goal came on a header from eight yards out in the 21st minute, finishing off across from Julie Ruma. Franklin scored in the 76th minute when she crossed in a long ball from the right sideline, hitting the far post into the back of the net.
"It was tough to penetrate when they sat back and played with just one forward," UWM coach Michael Moynihan said. "We had a number of shots that were way off target. We just have to get better at finishing the opportunities we create."
Goalkeepers Kerri St. Aubin and Mary Duffy split time for UWM in front of the net, and Duffy
was forced to make one save late in the game. UWM was able to play 25 players in the match.
"It was nice to get the shutout and to get a lot of people into the game,"
Moynihan said. "We didn't give up a good chance all game."
UWM returns to action Sunday afternoon, playing host to Horizon League rival
Youngstown St. on Parent's Day. The match begins at 1 p.m.
