Ryan Seymour Leads UWM Over Wright State, 3-2

Oct. 27, 2001

DAYTON, OHIO-Ryan Seymour scored two goals to help UWM top Wright State, 3-2, Friday night at Alumni Field. The Panthers (14-3, 5-0 Horizon) remain undefeated in the league entering Sunday's game at Butler.

Seymour's first goal came in the 21st minute, heading in a free kick from sophomore Kyle Lance to take the 1-0 lead into halftime. His second goal came in the 58th minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Tighe Dombrowski. Dombrowski intercepted the Raider's ball and played it to Seymour, who struck a curling left-footed shot from 25-yards out. Seymour led the team with five shots in the game and now has 32 points on the season (12 goals, 8 assists).

After UWM's 1-0 halftime lead, Wright State's Winston Marshall scored the equalizer in the 48th minute after finishing free on the back post. Junior defender Chad Dombrowski gave UWM the 2-1 lead when he converted a penalty kick at the 51:45 mark, and Seymour added the third goal six minutes later for what proved to be the game-winner.

"We asked the team to play a lot more disciplined, and we returned to our design and structure that has made us successful," UWM coach Louis Bennett said. "Today the design was to play effective, which we were. For the first time in four games, we were all on the same page and it made a big difference."

The Raider's Travis Sobers added a late goal after miscommunication in UWM's midfield left him open with a shot, allowing Wright State to trail 3-2. The loss gives WSU a 9-5-1 record overall and a 3-2 league record.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Dadaian recorded three saves on the game while picking up his 10th win of the season. Wright State outshot Milwaukee, 13-11.

Milwaukee continues on the road as they take on Butler at 1 p.m. on Sunday. A win over the Bulldogs would give UWM the Horizon League regular-season championship and allow them the first seed in the league tournament. The Panthers have already clinched a top spot to host the tournament quarterfinal at Engelmann Field on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 12 p.m. UWM's next home game will be Saturday, Nov. 3, 1 p.m. against league-foe UIC.
