The UWM women's volleyball team overcame a game one loss to down Portland University 14-16, 15-10, 15-9, 15-12 to start day two of the Powerade Panther Invitational Saturday morning at the Klotsche Center.
The Panthers, now 4-1, face Austin Peay in the final game of the tournament Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Junior outside hitter Laura Dallenbach (Waterloo, Iowa/West) again led a balanced Panther attack with 15 kills. Junior middle blocker Chrissy Schurla (Chicago, Ill./Evergreen Park) and sophomore outside hitter Tari Boutin (Burnsville, Minn.) added 14. Freshman Lindsey Spoden (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson Senior) recorded 52 assists in setting the UWM attack.
The Pilots fought back from an early 7-5 deficit and overcame a pair of game points to win game one. UWM then rallied in the final three games.
In game two, the Panthers grabbed a 5-4 lead on two Larissa Cattanach (Fargo, N.D./North) service aces and never trailed in the game again. In the third game, UWM scored eight straight points to overcome an early 5-0 deficit. In the fourth game, the Panthers scored the final three points of the match, getting the game-winner on a Dallenbach kill.
