The defense of two straight regular season Midwestern Collegiate Conference volleyball titles is off to a good start.
UWM needed just over an hour to down UW-Green Bay, 15-7, 15-9, 15-2, Friday night in the MCC opener for both teams.
The Panthers, ranked seventh in the Midwest Region, were led by junior Laura Dallenbach's (Waterloo, Iowa/West) 13 kills, with seven other Panthers recording at least two kills.
UWM's offense was strong all night, as the Panthers hit .299 for the match, including .321 in game one and a sparkling .529 in game three.
The Panther defense also limited the Phoenix to a .089 hitting percentage for the match, including just seven kills and seven errors in game two.
UWM is now 8-2 overall, and 1-0 in the MCC. After more than two weeks away, the Panthers return home Tuesday night to face non-conference rival Illinois State. The match begins at 7 p.m. The Panthers then head to the road next weekend, facing regionally-ranked MCC rivals Loyola and Illinois-Chicago Friday and Saturday.
