UWM Men's Soccer Celebrate 300th Win In Style

Sept. 17, 2000

MILWAUKEE-With a 2-0 victory over Loyola College (Md.), the UWM men's soccer team captured their 300th career win and the Oneida Bingo and Casino Classic trophy on Sunday in Green Bay. UWM continued its on-the-road winning streak to 4-0, as the Panthers pitched their second consecutive shutout to go 4-3 overall on the season. Coming off recent victories over two nationally-ranked teams, Loyola dropped its record to 4-2.

UWM took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute when sophomore defender Chad Dombrowski rose above the Greyhound defense to head a cross from midfielder Blake Bostwick into the back of the net. Junior forward Ryan Seymour added the insurance goal in the 78th minute when he beat Loyola goalkeeper Nick Daly, who had just entered the match in goal two minutes prior, off a one-on-one. Seymour's goal came off an assist from freshman midfielder Daniel Saavedra, who chipped the ball from midfield.

"I'm extremely pleased with our wins this weekend," said UWM coach Louis Bennett. "All week long we worked on specific defensive strategies. After giving up 14 goals (this season), we come away from a weekend tournament posting two shutouts, improving our record to 4-3, and having scored more goals on the season than we've let in (15-14)."

The Panthers' wins were highlighted by the back-to-back shutouts earned by goalkeepers Chris Dadaian on Sunday and Brad Swenby in Saturday's 1-0 win over Xavier. Instrumental in holding their opponents scoreless this weekend, the Panther's compelling defense was led by Evan Richardson, Chad Dombrowski, Scott Dombrowski, and Mark Pehowski

Seymour, Saavedra, and freshman forward Kyle Lance were selected to the All-Tournament team, while Chad Dombrowski was named the Oneida Bingo and Casino Classic MVP.
