MILWAUKEE-Posting their first shutout of the season, the UWM men's soccer team continued their perfect away record with a 1-0 victory over Xavier on Saturday in Green Bay. Playing in UWGB's Oneida Bingo and Casino Classic, the Panthers now boast a 3-0 record on the road and are 3-3 overall, while Xavier fell to 0-6 on the season.

Freshman midfielder Tighe Dombrowski opened the game with a bang, converting a pass from teammate Evan Richardson into the back of the net at just 1:30. Starting and playing in just his second game of the season, Dombrowski led UWM's attack with five shots overall and three on goal, including the game-winner.

"We had numerous chances to score that went a rye, but it was pleasing that we got the goal and the victory," said UWM coach Louis Bennett. "We're really pleased that we managed to keep the other team from scoring.

Outshooting Xavier 14-5, the Panthers' were led by strong performances from sophomore midfielder Kevin Roethe and sophomore Chad Dombrowski. Bennett also gives credit for the shutout to the solid defensive effort instilled by the entire back line, allowing UWM goalkeeper Brad Swenby to make only one save in the match.

"Traditionally, it's been an open-running game as both teams like to attack," said UWM coach Louis Bennett. "But Xavier has been having some problems. Normally a free-flowing team, they played a lot more physical. They tried to win a lot of battles in the midfield, which means they really didn't get many chances on goal because they couldn't get forward."

The Panthers will play for first place in the tournament on Sunday, taking on Loyola College at 12 p.m. UWM expects a tough contest, as Loyola (MD) has already beaten two nationally-ranked teams this season.
