MILWAUKEE-The UWM women's volleyball team continued their winning streak on Tuesday night as they traveled across town to capture the match against rival Marquette. Defeating the Golden Eagles in a nail-biting 3-2 victory, the Panthers' record now stands at 6-1.
After losing the opening game 12-15, UWM fought back to win the second, 15-10. They slipped 11-15 in the third game, then game back strong to finish the final two in convincing fashion with scores of 15-6 and 15-9.
Selected as MCC Player of the Week for her dominance in the past weekend's Panther Invitational, Laura Dallenbach (Waterloo, Iowa/West) again led UWM on both offense and defense with 19 kills and 21 digs. Named MVP of UWM's tournament, the junior outside hitter also had three serving aces against Marquette.
Junior Chrissy Schurla (Chicago, Ill./Evergreen Park) helped the Panther's attack with 16 kills and earned a .314 percentage, while sophomore Larissa Cattanach (Fargo, N.D./North) scored 12 and tallied eight block assists and two block solos. Freshman setter Lindsey Spoden (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson Senior) recorded 54 assists and 11 digs in the match.
The Panthers look to build on their success in this upcoming weekend's schedule, as they compete in the Illinois Tournament. UWM will play Ball State On Friday, and will challenge Illinois and New Hampshire on Saturday.
