Men's Soccer Defeats UW-Parkside in exhibition, 2-0

Aug. 29, 2000

The UWM men's soccer team wrapped up the exhibition season on Monday with a 2-0 win over UW-Parkside.

"We used this as a training exercise," said UWM coach Louis Bennett. "We pulled four starters after seven minutes, so we had an opportunity to see our freshman and some other inexperienced players."

The Panthers scored their two goals in the second half. The first came in the 55th minute when Kyle Lance (Franklin, Wis.) threw the ball in to Ryan Seymour (Portage, Mich.). Seymour flicked the ball to Bobby Lish (Shoreview, Minn.), who converted the goal.

In the 74th minute, Blake Bostwick (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) attempted a penalty kick, and Mark Turner (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) buried the rebound in the back of the net.

"Parkside has always worked hard, but our strength and depth proved too much, even though this was our third game in four days," said Bennett.

The Panthers went undefeated in three preseason exhibition games.

"These preseason games, even though played over one weekend, have given us a good foundation for the coming season," added Bennett. "It exposed some things we need to work on , and showed us some things we can hang our hat on."

UWM opens the regular season against Marquette on Sept. 1 at Engelmann Field. Gametime is 4:30 p.m.
