Panthers Do It In Five Games Again

Nov. 4, 2000

INDIANAPOLIS - Chrissy Schurla and Laura Dallenbach had 20 kills apiece to lead the UWM women's volleyball team to a 15-12, 11-15, 15-2, 2-15, 15-10, win over Butler Saturday.

The win is the Panthers' 12th straight overall, and their second straight five-game league win. UWM came back from a two-game deficit to beat Wright State Friday night.

The win also kept UWM (21-3, 10-1 MCC) a half-game up on Loyola (17-9, 9-1) in the MCC standings. The Ramblers wrap up the season next weekend with home matches against Wright State and Butler. The Panthers close the regular season Saturday afternoon at home against Cleveland State.

"I am extremely happy because we're on the road. It's big for a young team to get two five-game wins on the road," coach Kathy Litzau said. "I'm looking forward to being back home next weekend."

UWM, fifth in the Midwest Region, was up and down throughout the match. The Panthers hit just .357 in game one, .327 in game three, and .367 in game five, but hit just .031 in game two, and -.100 in game four. UWM also had to fight through a strong Butler defense, which recorded 16 blocks in the match.

Schurla hit .400 for the match. Sophomore Larissa Cattanach added 14 kills and freshman Sarah Potts tallied 11 kills to aid the Panther offense. Freshman Lindsey Spoden collected 59 assists. Defensively, three players had at least 20 digs, led by Dallenbach's 23.
