Box Score

Oct. 6, 2000

MILWAUKEE-The UWM women's soccer team scored two second-half goals to battle the Detroit-Mercy Titans to a 2-0 victory on Friday afternoon at Engelmann Field. The Panthers shut out their second straight conference victim to post a 3-0 record in the MCC and a 7-5-1 record overall.

Sophomore midfielder Katie Kubacki scored UWM's first goal with just 29 seconds into the second half off an assist from freshman Evan Franklin. Receiving the ball from Franklin in Detroit's box, Kubacki beat a Titan defender to score far post and lead the game, 1-0.

Late in the game, senior defender Fanta Cooper made a great run forward, attacking in Titan territory. Cooper beat a couple defenders in the box to go end-line, but found freshman forward Lisa Bengtsson open near the top of the box and dropped it back. Bengtsson hit it far post from 18 yards out on the right to take the game, 2-0, in the 80th minute.

"It's a good performance. We're 3-0 in our conference, and we look in good shape in there," said UWM coach Michael Moynihan. "We're healthy, we're playing well, and we're gaining more and more confidence with each game. It's a solid win."

Sophomore forward Kristin Munyon led the Panthers with six shots, as UWM outshot Detroit 18-6. Freshman goalkeeper Kerri St. Aubin recorded her second consecutive shutout for the Panthers.
