Panther Volleyball Pounces Purdue, 3-1, to Stay Undefeated

Sept. 4, 1999

West Lafayette, Ind. - The UWM women?s volleyball team improved its record to 4-0 on the season by beating Purdue, 15-7, 7-15, 15-10, 15-2, Saturday night at the 10th Annual Mortar Board Purdue Premier. Sophomore Laura Dallenbach (Waterloo, Iowa-West) was named Tournament MVP after a 20 kill and six dig performance against the Boilermakers. Katie Schneider (West Bend, Wis.-East) and Sue Raschka (Chicago, Ill.-Immaculate Heart of Mary) were also named to the All-Tournament Team. UWM won the tournament with a 3-0 record.

?We really had to fight,? said assistant coach Susie Ketchum about the win. ?It?s the best we?ve played so far. Even better than against Madison.?

The Panthers beat Stephen F. Austin, 3-0, earlier in the day and intracity-rival Marquette, 3-0, on Friday night.

?We took where we were last year and have just gotten better,? said Ketchum. ?That doesn?t happen often.?

UWM plays host at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Panther Invitational on Sept. 10-11 at the UWM Klotsche Center. The Panthers play Duquesne and Marshall on Friday and IUPUI and Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
