It took only an hour for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team to sweep UW-Green Bay in three straight games in the first match of the Wisconsin Challenge tonight in Madison, Wis. The Panthers had no trouble downing the Phoenix 15-3, 15-5, 15-3.
Senior Sue Raschka (MB, Chicago, Ill./Immaculate Heart of Mary) led the Panthers with 15 kills, with a .636 hitting percentage, which places her fourth in the UWM record books for single match hitting percentage.
Fellow senior Ericka Malterer (OP, Waupun, Wis./Waupun HS) added another 13 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, and 13 digs.
Fans got to see a bit of the future with sophomore Moira Coughlin (S, Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic HS) filling in at the setter position for the first time since joining the Panther squad last year. She was joined by newcomers Kristen Krubsack (Fr., OH, Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville HS), who had 5 kills in 10 attempts, and Larissa Cattanach (MB, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS), who added another pair of kills.
The Panthers take on Marquette University tomorrow at noon and No. 13 Wisconsin at 7 p.m.. UWM defeated both teams early in the season, 3-1 and 3-0 respectively.
