The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team rolled through the competition at this year?s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Panther Invitational with wins today over IUPUI, 3-0, and Eastern Illinois, 3-1. The Panthers are now 8-0 on the season.

Against IUPUI, the Panthers turned in a .386 team hitting percentage, their second best of the season. They swept IUPUI, 15-5, 15-9, 15-9. They were led by sophomore Laura Dallenbach with 13 kills, followed by senior Sue Rashka with 12 and senior Ericka Malterer with 10. Freshman Larissa Cattanach made her college debut with 4 kills and a .429 hitting percentage, along with 2 digs and a service ace.

The Panthers maintained their momentum in the match against Eastern Illinois, downing them 15-9, 15-15, 15-9, 15-5. Malterer led the team in kills with 17, followed closely by Rashka with 16.

After today?s matches, Malterer and Katie Schneider are tied at 974 career digs, setting a new UWM career digs record. The old record was 965.

The Panthers will resume action this weekend when they travel to the Wisconsin Challenge hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Panthers take on UW-Green Bay on Friday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 18, UWM will play Marquette at 10 a.m. and UW-Madison at 7 p.m. All matches are in the UW Field House.
