UWM Volleyball Falls to Conference-Rival Loyola

MILWAUKEE - The Panthers' 33-match home winning streak came to an abrupt end tonight with a tough 3-1 loss to conference-rival Loyola Chicago at UWM?s Klotsche Center. The last time the Panthers had lost at home was in 1996 when the visiting Ramblers beat the Panthers in a close 3-2 match. The Panthers? record falls to 21-2 overall and 8-1 in the MCC, while the Ramblers up their record to 17-8 overall, 8-2 in the MCC.

After the Panthers took the first game, 15-5, with relative ease, the Ramblers poured it on to take the next two games, 15-5 and 15-9. In the final game, UWM and Loyola battled point-for-point, until the Ramblers were able to pull away and take the game, 15-10, to win the match.

The Ramblers shut down the solid Panther offense, with the Panthers hitting only .197?well below its .285 season average. Laura Dallenbach (OH, Waterloo, Iowa, Soph.) topped the Panthers with 15 kills and a team-high 17 digs, followed by Ericka Malterer (OP, Waupun, Wis., Sr.) with 11 kills, and Chrissy Schurla (MB, Chicago, Ill., Soph.) and Sue Raschka (MB, Chicago, Ill., Sr.) with 10 kills each.

UW-Milwaukee turns its sights on the Illinois-Chicago Flames who travel to Milwaukee tomorrow to take on the Panthers at 2 p.m. in the Klotsche Center.

A Look at UIC (15-12, 7-3 MCC)

The Flames defeated UW-Green Bay tonight, 3-1, in Green Bay, Wis., upping their overall record to 15-12, and 7-3 in the MCC. They travel to Milwaukee tomorrow to take on the Panthers.
